DISORDERS

(Their description, characteristics or symptoms,

causes, and complementary or alternative treatments)

Disorder: INFLAMMATION

Description: Inflammation is a natural reaction to injury or infection. Any organ of the body, internal or external, can become inflamed.

Symptoms: The affected tissues swell, redden, become warm and tender, and may be painful.

Incidence:

Causes: External inflammation is most often the result of injury, but can also result from (or be aggravated by) infection, allergies, and other factors. Internal inflammation is often caused by bacterial infection, but can also be caused by disorders such as arthritis or allergies.

Treatments: The traditional methods for relieving inflammation are positioning the affected part properly (including splinting, if necessary), applying heat and/or ice alternatively, or herbal poultices, taking necessary antibiotics if bacterial infection is present, resting, and consuming a whole foods diet with emphasis on raw foods, fresh juices and filtered water.
