DISORDERS
(Their description, characteristics or
symptoms,
causes, and complementary or alternative
treatments)
Disorder: TUMOR
Description: A tumor
is a swelling or abnormal growth of tissue that has no useful function in the
body. Tumors may be either benign or malignant (cancerous). Benign tumors are
isolated growths that can occur anywhere in the body. They generally do not pose
a threat to health, do not spread to other parts of the body, and do not grow
back if they are removed. Unlike benign tumors, malignant tumors are usually a
serious, even life-threatening, health problem. They tend to grow
uncontrollably, interfere with normal metabolic or organ functioning, and spread
to other parts of the body. They may also recur after surgical removal.
Causes: Environmental
factors and diet seem to play an important role in the development of tumors of
all types.
Treatments: Tumors
have been known to decrease in size and even disappear in response to dietary
changes and supplementation with vitamins and minerals. The suggestions
outlined here are designed to enhance the immune system and suppress the growth
of tumors, both benign and malignant.

pregnancy. |
Recommendations:
 | Eat a diet consisting of 50 percent raw fruits and
vegetables. Nuts, seeds, whole grains, and low-fat yogurt should be included.
 | Do no consume animal protein, dairy products (except
yogurt), processed and packaged foods, salt, sugar, white flour or white flour
products.
 | Although benign tumors are generally limited in
growth, they usually should be removed; a small percentage can later become
malignant.
 | Malignant tumors must be treated as early as possible.
Depending on the site and size of the tumor, surgical removal, chemotherapy
and/or radiation therapy may be recommended. |
| | |
Considerations:
 | Studies done in Japan suggest that taking garlic
supplements may help reduce the size of tumors.
 | Iron deficiency has been linked to the development of
tumors. However, iron supplements should be taken only if tests show a
deficiency. People with cancer should not take supplemental iron. |
